A NEW PURPOSE
For 2018 The Lights of Christmas has partnered with one of Sydney’s oldest and most respected medical institutions, St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
Sydney’s premier Christmas charity event will be raising funds for the Hospital’s Heart and Lung Transplantation program. The Lights of Christmas is proud to be aligned with an organisation that is at the forefront of cardiothoracic care in Australia.
The St Vincent’s Hospital Heart and Lung Transplantation program is one of the largest and longest running programs in Australia. The transplantation program performs approximately 25-30 heart and 60 lung transplants each year.
The transplant unit is the only heart and lung transplantation program in NSW and is a major referral centre for metropolitan and rural communities as well as South Australia. Funds raised will support the new Organ Care System known as ‘Heart and Lungs in the Box’ which is a donor care system developed by researchers at St Vincent’s and abroad.
This device connects the heart or lungs to a portable device which brings the organs back to life until they can be transplanted. This new procedure will enable St Vincent’s to increase the number of heart and lung transplants each year by up to 30%.
The cost for this innovation is $50,000 per use and the funds raised at this year’s The Lights of Christmas will help St Vincent’s continue to offer this life saving device.
The Lights of Christmas will be providing a number of fundraising opportunities on-site. We ask that you give generously.
